What has Labor done for the Environment? Labor is the only political party that has consistently acted to conserve the environment. Whether it was appointing the very first Minister for the Environment, saving the Franklin River, creating the National Parks system, or being the first party in Australia to recognise climate change under Hawke and Keating, Labor has moved beyond slogans to action. More recently, Labor has shown that it is the only party that will take action on climate change. The first act of the new Labor Government was to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Labor has implemented a renewable energy target that will be essential to meeting our carbon pollution reduction targets. Federal Labor has also invested heavily in public transport, energy efficiency measures and renewable energy technology. Labor also tried to put a price on carbon at the end of 2009, but this was voted down in the Senate by the Liberal-National Party and the Greens Party. More than just empty slogansThis election, vote for a party that will actually deliver on climate change, rather than give empty slogans. Labor has shown that it will act, while other parties such as the Greens Party or Liberal-National Party are just hot air.
