Interim Garnaut Report Released!

Professor Garnaut has released his interim report on Australia's response to Climate Change. He has stated that Australia will need to cut CO2-equivalent emissions by between 70% and 90% by 2050, a much higher target than the 60% set by the Federal Labor Government and the NSW State Government. He is calling for Australia to take a leading role on the world stage in combating Climate Change.

This report lends support to LEANs campaign to stop any new high emission infrastructure being built in NSW.

"Policy-makers will need to eschew short-term responses that seem to deal with immediate problems but contribute to the building of pressures for future policy change.

We must build up enough pressure to pass this motion through the party Conference and delay any decision to build a new traditional coal fired power station until gas, renewables and energy efficiency have been given a chance.
