Campaign against CSG in northern NSW

LEAN North Coast NSW is campaigning with local MPs to defend the region from CSG development. LEAN stands with communities who are concerned that the risks associated with Coal Seam Gas extraction are too high and too little understood.

Local Labor members, like Lismore Mayor Jenny Dowell, Member for Richmond Justine Elliott and former Member for Page Janelle Saffin, have been at the forefront of trying to protect our region from harmful Coal Seam Gas mining.

The Labor Environment Activist Network North Coast is working with local branches and local activists to ensure that NSW Labor has a strong anti CSG policy for the next NSW election. We have been passing motions through branches and lobbying shadow Ministers about making sure our region is protected from CSG. LEAN North Coast will be bringing a motion to the NSW Labor conference that would impose a moratorium on all CSG drilling in NSW and a complete ban for the north coast.

The local National Party members are completely absent on the issue and are letting their community down. It is the Nationals Andrew Stoner that is trying to fast track the Santos operations int he Pilliga, even after they were fined for contaminating local groundwater. It is the National Party that has set up a Federal Committee with the sole purpose of fast tracking CSG development in NSW.

Only Labor can protect our community from harmful CSG and Labor must take a strong policy to the next state election.
